Plants, flowers, foliage and fauna, recreating their shapes and forms in textiles is a subject I’ve been dipping into since my Art School days.

Recently I found myself going back to this source of inspiration thanks to my fellow studio companion and friend – Julia Jeffrey or Stonemaiden Art.

gathering the pieces

Stalks and stems worked using I-cord knit technique, buds and blooms made from pom poms, and the foliage are based on free form crochet for an organic appearance.

Everything is hand felted giving each section an extra bit of substance, then gathered and layered up to make a balanced composition.

dandelion brooches

Stitched and constructed by hand, then tied at the base with natural jute string to finish things off.

Some have made their way onto my Etsy shop CMbeatknit as brooches, other pieces and lengths of greenery haven’t quiet told me what they wants to be yet, but I’m certainly having fun making them!
